Biking with kids

1.
Crystal Springs Reservoir: 280 S. to Black Mountain Road exit, go R when it ends go Left, go down 1 mile to Crystal Springs Reservoir path- awesome, sunny, flat, no cars- don't go to the Crystal Springs Rd. exit by the way! On Sundays, Canada Rd. is blocked off from that area down S. to Redwood City- it is a slight downgrade/upgrade back, but sunny hugely wide and fun- right near 92, search google for exact location.
2.
One of the best place to practice and have fun is the JFK drive in the Golden Gate Park on Sunday. A long stretch of road is closed to traffic for people to have fun. Go earlier will find less people.
3.
Canada Road on the Peninsula is closed to cars on Sundays. There's a slight hill on the northern end along the lake, but from Edgewood Road in the middle up to Filoli Estate is totally flat. Filoli is a great place to stop and eat a picnic lunch.

There's a bike path along the Bay from SFO south to Coyote Point park. It's fun to watch the planes landing, and there's an excellent playground in Coyote Point, as well as a restaurant and a decent kids' museum (50% off admission if you're a member of the SF Zoo).

5.
Also, when you're tired of GG Park, two other good rides for kids:
-- Crissy Field has a wide, flat dirt path with the best view in town.
-- Tiburon has a flat bike path from Blackie's Pasture to downtown, though beware that it crosses a couple of streets. If you're willing to cross the GG Bridge, there's no easier, safer, and more scenic path than the one in Tiburon, just a few miles off 101. You take it all the way to downtown Tiburon from Blackie's Pasture. No cars, just scattered walkers, and the reward of an amazing view...
6.
Right outside of the Mission Bay branch library is a creek side walk. It is a beautiful and relaxing place that many people in San Francisco don't know about. The north side is a very easy straight walk. The south side where the house boats are has a dirt trail but you need to have better control of your bike. If your child can complete a loop that means he is graduated :)
7.
You can also bike the waterfront outside of AT&T park for a short stretch up to a children's park.
8.
If you feel like crossing the bridge you can go to the Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland just south of the Bay Bridge. It it a large park with a view of San Francisco.
